The Regional Office of Education has just received information from ISBE that CERTS is scheduled to be down from approximately August 7th through September 5th.
This is important because the renewal/registration process is done through CERTS. The Regional Office will NOT be able to process any renewals during this time period. This is an urgent notice as all teachers and administrators are required to be registered before receiving their first paycheck in September. Our office is still showing that 200-300 teachers have NOT renewed their certificates.
Please forward this information to the teachers who are renewing and/or registering in FY06. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our office.
Certification
What is the difference between Certificate Renewal and Certificate Registration? The renewal process involves teachers who have actively taught in public schools in the 5-year cycle. After the certificate is renewed it must then be registered. The renewal form (73-98) and registration form (73-10)may be turned in to the ROE at the same time, even though the processes are separate. Non-public school teachers may or may not be required to participate in the renewal process depending upon local policy. Individuals who have not taught in a public school in the 5-year cycle, (i.e. substitutes, retirees) need only to register their certificates.
What if I worked part of the 5-year cycle? The professional development requirements are pro-rated for the number of active years.
